50plus Hellas

50plus Hellas is a non-profit organization founded in 2005, based in Chalandri, Athens. We are the first national organization concerned with the rights of people over the age of 50. We aim to promote the improvement in the quality of life through actions of empowerment and inclusion, training programs addressed to older people and relevant professionals. Additionally we intervene at political level for a just society for all.

Why “50plus”?

Our name came from the need for an organization that could respond to the needs of an ageing population. People aged 50+ (and not only those delineated as Third Age, 65+) frequently confront situations such as caring for others, long term unemployed because of age discrimination, digital illiteracy, loneliness, etc. All these issues are related to ageing, but there is a lack of informed agencies to deal with their problems.
50plus as created in 2005 to cover this gap and to highlight the positive and active role older people play in our society.
Our work is based on the needs of older people, on scientific and research findings as ways of confronting stereotypes and ageism.
