For those speaking and reading Greek there are many courses available. For those who only feel comfortable in English there are still a number of sources for educational courses.

FREE GREEK LESSONS FOR IMMIGRANTS *NEW*

The Pan Hellenic Organization Elliniki Estia is organizing a Free Greek Language course totally 80 hrs. The course is based on Greek language training, Greek culture and also lessons about learning Greek through various form of culture such as: Greek music, dance and theatre. The courses will take place in small groups and will be time flexible. Morning and afternoon classes 2-3 times/week (three hrs each course).

All services are free of charge.

LEARN ROMANIAN LANGUAGE *NEW*

The Romanian School of Athens offers free programs ( the only cost for students are photocopies) to adult foreigners of every nationality who want to learn Romanian language, to improve it or to perfect their knowledge of the language.

The school operates in Metaxourgeio area, 22 Kodratou st, behind Peroke Theatre.

Here is your chance to learn to speak Romanian. These classes are taught by a Romanian professor and cover beginning, and intermediate levels.
To mention as well that the classes are on Saturday noon, 1 hr for intermediate from 11-12, and 1 hr for beginners12-13.00.

Open University in the UK

DEREE COLLEGE

Deree College, in Athens, is also worth approaching since they run periodic courses in English for adults.

NELE_ Local Authorities often provide courses and opportunities through their Popular Education Centres. The web site is not in English but since some courses can be enjoyed without knowing Greek . They mention courses and topics like Arts and Culture, the Social Economy and seld employmnt, citizenship education and special programmes for the disabled, but often there are gymnastic courses for older people. The only solution is to find out what is happening – through your local citizen centre or town hall.

Private courses.

A number of private education centres offer courses in a wide variety of subjects. One significant provider of courses for older learners where language tends not to be a problem and where advice can be given about if you can do the course without knowing Greek, is the Athens College. Bridge Game

There are a number of centres that teach this stimulating card game.

Lessons are given regularly to Greek speakers and you should make enquiries at your local club to see if you could follow a lesson series. Duplicate Bridge does not require much Greek as it is played by indicating your calls and not speaking. In addition many players know a lot of English.
