DAY CARE Centres for Older people

What are they?
These are open day care centres designed to serve those who cannot look after themselves and where their main carer is either working or has their own health problems making it difficult for them to care full time.
Their mission is to keep and support the older dependent person in their own social and home environment whilst also helping the family carer to manage caring whilst also working.
Their aims are to keep the older dependent person in their own environment, support the family, allow people to work and care, to avoid older people being forced into institutional care, to avoid social exclusion.
KIFI have nursing services, provide personal care, give practical solutions to problems, creative employment and hobbies, and the development of social and organizational skills.
There are not many KIFI’s in full operation and you need to check with your Local Authority. They often operate in close cooperation with KAPIs (Open Care community services for Older People) , with local health services and the National Centre for Immediate social Help. (EKAB)
If there is a KIFI in your area the dependent older person may be eligible but will need to submit considerable paper work e.g. an application form from the older person or family carer; a formal letter of support from a public sector or social insurance fund doctor concerning the health of the older person; a copy of the latest tax declaration or return or an equivalent document.
Applications can be made at any time but acceptance depends on their being free places. The administrative Council makes the final decision as to who can be admitted.
